Gamers going to space

NCsoft the online games publisher has released Tabula Rasa a sci-fi MMO (massive multiplayer online game) that features an intergalactic fight for freedom against aliens. In the words of an NCsoft spokesman: “Tabula Rasa offers players a different kind of MMO experience, enhancing our portfolio of game titles. The game play mechanics are very different to that of a typical MMO – those who have experienced the game have recognized these innovative features and applauded them.”

This fall, Richard Garriot, executive producer of Tabula Rasa will be launching into space, as part of Operation Immortality, which has the objective of producing a “backup of our existence”. This record, that will include humanity’s greatest achievements and digitized DNA sequences, will be taken to the International Space Station by Mr. Garriot himself.

And there will be 40 lucky gamers who will have the possibility of sending their very own DNA to space. NCsoft is launching a contest to choose the 40 gamers DNA sequences that will be stored in the Immortality Drive.

“I’ve been able to do some very exciting things in the games business, but nothing of this magnitude,” said Garriott, executive producer for Tabula Rasa at NCsoft. “I’m thrilled we can offer the once in a lifetime chance to millions of gamers to virtually go to space with me. A select few will have their DNA digitized and sent. And, theoretically, if anything happens to the human race, it could be their DNA that is used to resurrect humanity.”

If having your DNA sent to space is too much for you, you can just enter the site and leave your message for humanity.
