Price comparison site Become.com has raised USD8m in a fourth round of funding from unnamed investors. The round, reported by VentureBeat, was confirmed by the firm, which would not disclose the investors’ identities. The investment follows a USD17.5m Series C round earlier this year and brings the total capital raised by Become.com to USD37m.
California-based Become.com offers a product search engine and a price comparison tool, working together with merchants and e-commerce site owners. Founded in 2004, the company claims to index 5.6bn web pages using proprietary search technology, listing more than 25m products from 5,000 merchants.
Electronic sales generated revenues of USD33.8bn in the US last quarter, a 13.6% increase from Q1 2007, according to estimates by the US Department of Commerce. The department estimates that e-commerce accounted for 3.3% of total sales in the US last quarter.
