General Motors and Telemundo launch online football show

US Spanish-language portal, Yahoo!Telemundo, is partnering with General Motors to produce a multi-platform reality TV show centred on a team of amateur football players. ‘Gol de Media Cancha’, which can be translated to ‘Forty-Yard Strike’, will broadcast next month on Yahoo! Telemundo as 12 webisodes, ranging from two to 10 minutes in length.

The General Motors-sponsored programme will show the efforts of eight amateur footballers during the tryouts for US professional team, Miami FC. Viewers will be able to vote for their favourite contestant and the winner will be given a chance to gain a contract with the team. Webisodes will feature video ads promoting General Motor’s GMC line of pickup trucks and SUV vehicles. Under the agreement, Yahoo! Telemundo will promote the show on its online sport section and mobile portal.

The deal builds on an existing partnership, which saw Yahoo! Telemundo and General Motors co-produce a DIY-focused web series last year.
