Former COO of News Corp’s Star China become senior vice-president and strategic investment director at Alibaba

Zhang Wei, the former COO of News Corp’s Star China, is set to become senior vice-president and strategic investment director at China-based e-commerce company Alibaba.

Zhang has also worked as a general manager at CNBC China, a financial analyst at General Electric and a part-time anchor for China Central Television.

Alibaba, which is 33% owned by Softbank and 39% by Yahoo!, is one of the largest online trading companies in Asia. The company recently launched versions of Alibaba in India and Japan, and is looking to expand into Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand.
