Sony has reportedly started developing a mobile phone that will be sold as part of its PlayStation line.

According to MarketingWeek, the device is expected to resemble the PlayStation Portable (PSP), but with mobile phone functionality incorporated. MarketingWeek says that the device won’t ship until next year’s Christmas shopping season.Sony is likely to market the PlayStation phone on its own, eschewing its Sony Ericsson joint venture.

A source told MarketingWeek that Sony would “never give its PlayStation branding” to Sony Ericsson, which currently uses Sony Walkman audio player and Cyber-Shot camera brands on its phones.
