Sun CEO backs web TV tech firm Winbox

Winbox Technology has raised its first round of equity funding, in a move that establishes the firm as a publicly listed business.

Under the move, the German TV technology firm, formerly known as TeleGent, will trade under a new name. Leading the new investment, which is undisclosed, is VC firm TVM Capital and angel investor Robert Schneider, the CEO of SCM Microsystems.

Winbox designs technology for IPTV receivers, VoD systems, hard disk videorecorders and set-top boxes. As TeleGent, the firm raised USD20m in Series C funding in Aug 2007. The new investment is rumoured to have raised a seven-figured Euro sum for the firm, reports ipTVnews.
