Openfilm site merges video and social networking

Openfilm says it will launch a new website featuring both premium video content and social networking tools.

The company says Openfilm.com will combine the best aspects of video sharing–including user uploads, content ratings and social networking–with the high video quality and rich presentation style of commercial video-on-demand sites.Openfilm says it will build a content library with original videos drawn from its user base as well as clips produced at its own Miami-based studio.

The company reports that it is also partnering with film schools and film festivals to provide content. The site will offer 50/50 ad revenue sharing to all contributors, the company says. Openfilm.com is currently operating in private beta mode.
