Turbine raises USD40m in funding

Virtual worlds game developer Turbine reports it has raised USD40m in equity financing.

Time Warner and GGV Capital led the round, along with existing investors Highland Capital Partners, Polaris Venture Partners, Tudor Ventures and Columbia Capital. Turbine says the money will be used to further accelerate its growth.Turbine creates and operates massive, persistent online worlds that incorporate social gaming communities.

The company is one of the largest privately held online game studios in North America. The firm’s titles include The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar, Dungeons & Dragons Online and Asheron’s Call.
