Glam Media has appointed Mike Meyers, the former CEO of rival lifestyle brand SheKnows.com, as VP and general manager of its new division Glam Family. The unit is due to launch in Q3 2008 and will focus on parenting, pregnancy and other child related topics. The appointment follows the recent launch of Glam Media’s video and ad platform and last month’s rumours that the firm turned down a USD1.3bn buyout offer.
Glam Family will be the latest channel to be added to Glam Media’s network of 500 women’s lifestyle websites and blogs and will offer ad space to family-orientated publishers. Speaking at the EconAds conference in New York this week, Glam Media CEO Samir Arora also said Glam was considering developing news, politics and other male-orientated website categories, reports CNET. Arora refused to comment on recent buyout rumours.
Meyers comes to Glam Media, having served as CEO and early partner at SheKnows.com. Here he developed and managed six sites under the SheKnows banner including Sheknows.com, Pregnancyandbaby.com, and Chefmom.com.
In Feb, Glam Media raised USD84.6m in funding to pursue new acquisitions and expand its network of partnerships following a previous USD29.6m funding round.
