E-publishing startup, Zmags, raises USD4.2m from OpenView

Danish online publishing startup, Zmags, plans to expand into the US after raising USD4.2m from Boston-based OpenView Venture Partners.

Founded in Copenhagen three years ago, Zmags converts traditional publications including books, magazines and PDF files into interactive websites. The funding comes on the heels of a Series A funding round in Jan, when it raised USD2.6m from Danish investors, NorthCap Partners.

Zmags CEO Jens Karstoft says the firm’s revenue has tripled since its creation in 2005. It makes revenue by charging a monthly fee for its services, ranging from GBP19 (USD37) to GBP149 (USD294).

The company has offices in Canada, the UK and the US and claims to have 1,200 customers in 20 countries.
