US restaurant chains debut 3D social networking support

US fast-food restaurant chains Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s have launched websites that allow social network site users to download software that lets them explore and interact on the Web in 3D.

Parent company CKE Restaurants states that a browser enhancement developed by UK-based ExitReality allows social network platform users to experience traditional, 2-dimensional Web sites as 3-dimensional spaces.

The ExitReality technology enables users to convert their profile pages on social network sites, such as MySpace, into 3D environments. Visiting “friends” using the ExitReality software also appear as avatars. The companies are offering a pre-release version of the application at http://www.carlsjr.com, http://www.hardees.com and http://www.exitreality.com.
