IAC/InterActiveCorp’s Citysearch sued over click fraud

I am interested what the verdict will be! If you want to read in detail the plaintiff, go here.

Citysearch is accused of failing to prevent click fraud on its ad program, as part of a class action filed in Los Angeles.

“Citysearch is defrauding its advertising customers of millions of dollars by not only turning a blind eye to click fraud, but in fact encouraging it as well,” says local law firm Kabateck, which submitted the lawsuit on behalf of plaintiff Tom Lambotte.

Kabateck claims that Lambotte’s ad on Citysearch began receiving a high number of clicks from the moment he requested to cancel his ad space, with clicks raising from one every two days to between 12 and 16 per day after Citysearch received his cancellation request. The fraud allegedly took place in Dec 2007.

The law firm says that Citysearch refused Lambotte’s request to reverse the charges for the clicks. It argues that the IAC/InterActiveCorp-owned network has no program to fight click fraud, contrary to its deal with advertisers.

Kabateck says it recently agreed a “multi-million dollar settlement” with Yahoo!. It is also defending private investigator David Almeida in a click fraud case against Google.
