Travel service TripIt gets USD5.1m funding

Startup travel services site TripIt is receiving USD5.1m in Series B funding, with existing investor O’Reilly Alpha Tech returning to contribute USD1m and new investors The European Founders Fund and Sabre Holdings joining the round.

US-based TripIt says a significant percentage of its business comes from English-speaking nations overseas and the funding will be used to build on this to increase international expansion into successful markets.

The site allows users to build a free virtual itinerary that organises travel services such as airline, car and hotel bookings and supports the service with social networking tools and mobile phone functionality. TripIt says it currently sees around 150,000 hits per month.
