Developer code turns iPhone into Blu-ray remote

NetBlender has announced a software development kit (SDK) for BD Touch, a technology that allows iPhones to communicate with and control Blu-ray players. A company statement observes that “search and e-commerce possibilities related to movie content abound when two-way communication between the iPhone and the content being displayed on a Blu-ray player is enabled.”

NetBlender notes that its technology will also allow users to push digital copies of movies to their iPhone from the Blu-ray disc menu and automatically catalogue Blu-ray disc collections.

The connection can also be used to supply movie suggestions, display trivia and show extra information about a movie in sync with the feature’s playback as well as to turn Blu-ray discs into games that use the iPhone as the game controller.
