30m homes to have Blu-ray by 2009

Nearly 30m households worldwide will own a Blu-ray disk device by the end of this year, according to a report by Strategy Analytics.

The research firm estimates that annual sales of Blu-ray devices – such as players, videogame consoles and PCs – will reach 57.4m units worldwide by 2012.

“Blu-ray Disc has now been confirmed as the de facto next generation optical disc standard,” says Strategy Analytics VP and principal analyst David Mercer, who wrote the report.
