Google still number one in US search market

Google retained its dominance in the US search market in Feb 2008, despite a slight overall downturn in searches conducted throughout the month, according to comScore.The order of the top five search sites retained the same. Google came top with 59.2% of searches, followed by Yahoo! with 21.6% and Microsoft with 9.6%. This marked a 0.7% increase for Google and a slight 0.6% slide for Yahoo!. AOL and Ask came in fourth and fifth place with 4.9% and 4.6% respectively.

In the month, 9.9bn searches were conducted in the US, 6% down from Jan’s 10.5% searches. The total number of searches conducted on Google stood at 7.4bn, down 5% from Jan. Searches on Yahoo! were down 8%. Searches conducted by number on Amazon, MySpace and Facebook fell 17%, 12% and 6% respectively.
